Scoop Sizes!

Scoop Sizes!

We have recently had a few questions and confused people asking about the scoops in our supplements. You might have spotted that our scoop sizes to go with the powders and pellets are inscribed with a number in millilitres (ml) but we give you a serving weight in grams (g). We will try to explain why!

Scoops measure a volume, and this is traditionally measured in ml. Our powders and pellets serving rates are measured in grams. The confusing bit is 1ml does NOT always equal 1g as the powders and pellets have different densities.

If any of you have ever used a measuring cup when baking, you will
know that 500g of flour will not take up the same volume as 500g of sugar!

Don’t worry, we have done the tricky calculations for you though, the instructions are all on the label of each product, with how much each scoop contains and how much to feed, meaning you can ignore the ml label on the actual scoop!

Just make sure you don’t swap scoops between different products as each product has been calculated to its own scoop size.

The volume and weight have been typically calculated for a level scoop, but just occasionally a rounded or heaped scoop is required, and this is noted on the label under the feeding directions.

Let’s go through a few examples:

Buteless Super Strength Powder, uses a 60ml scoop, but requires a rounded scoop (like the instruction a heaped spoon in baking) to give you 50g, the daily serving for a 500kg horse.

For Uls-Gard Pellets, the enclosed scoop is 75ml but will give you 50
g of pellets, as the recommended serving rate is 100g per day divided into two feeds, this works out as 1 scoop twice daily.

Uls-Gard Pellets 1.5kg

Sometimes the density is 1:1, so for Magnitude the millilitre and grams are the same. The scoop is a 5ml scoop, and holds 5g of Magnitude powder, the daily serving for a 500kg horse.
